Unable to use clipboard option for drawing

Asked by Jesse Kenyon

Inkscape 48.2 on Mac, I'm unable to use the clipboard function when I draw. I watched a tutorial for making Swirls and Flourishes using this method. I am unable to perform the same functions.
I would design a shape with Bezier tool, copy, then go to the drawing tool and hand draw a path using the option of clipboard for shape.
Each time it came out with a fill on the curve of the stroke.

It's hard to say what the problem might be, since this Lp Answers format does not allow posting or attaching images. You may want to visit a regular kind of forum, where you can show what you want to achieve, as well as what you're doing in Inkscape. Here are all the forums I know about: http://inkscape.org/en/learn/

My first impression, based on the limited info you provided, is that the technique is proper, but the result is not what you wanted. But again, I can't be sure without more info. Another possibility is that you set From clipboard, on the tool control bar, but you didn't click the Spiro Spline button (since you didn't mention doing so).

Quoting ~suv:

Changing the pasteboard settings as described in the FAQ and in bug #307005 allows copying of vector objects within Inkscape and between different Inkscape windows while only disabling automatic syncing from the clipboard of X11 to the pasteboard of Mac OS X (one direction).

This should fix your issue.

As describe by the following,
You need to deactivate this functionality in X11 preferences > Pasteboard: uncheck "Update Pasteboard when CLIPBOARD changes". However, this will also prevent copying text from any X11 application to Mac OS X ones. It will not prevent copying text from OS X to X11.

AND thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am very relieved to have this functionality. Present project aside, I enjoy the benifits of Inkscape, this a FANTASTIC TOOL.

 THANKS TO ALL WHO RESPONDED!!
