how do you thicken a line and make it smooth?

Asked by Sam Costanzo

I traced the outline of a photo and now want to have it be a thicker border around an image with no photo. More or less the tracing was done with a thin line and I want to make it thicker.

Assuming you made a single path (i.e. with the Pen or Pencil tools), this will widen it: Object menu > Fill and Stroke > Stroke Style tab > Width. If you drew it with the Calligraphy tool, you'll need to use Path menu > Outset. Repeat as many times as necessary to achieve the width you want. Or use Path menu > Dynamic Offset, and drag the tiny diamond shaped handle until the desired width is achieved.

Don't want the photo anymore? Delete it, or put it on a separate layer and hide the layer.

Sorry, I forgot about the smoothing part of your question. Definitely need more info for that! What kind of "line" is it? How did you draw it?

Can you help with this problem?
