Extension Toothwheel option radius for teeth

Asked by Stefan Ludwig

Hi

I want to suggest a new feature for the toothwheel function / extension.
I would like to have an option that the outer edges of each tooth can be made round with a userdefined radius.

I'm using Inkscape to create toothwheels export them as DXF and use the DXF-Files with CAD-CAM Software
to create GCode for CNC-Milling. Sharpedged toothwheels are more prone to wear out than rounded edges.

The supersophisticated version would be teeths where the shape of each tooth is the involute (in german evolventenverzahnung).

involute-toothing has the effect that the teeth roll on each other instead of gliding which means even less wearing out
so if you know of somebody who finds in interesting to code a geometric and mathematical challenge tell him about my suggestion.

Maybe a coder from FreeCad or libreCad wants to do it or take the inkscape-toothwheel-code as a base to code a toothwheel-function in the cad-sofware.

please send me a short answer if you did find someone who wants to take the challenge.

best regards

  Stefan

You might be interested in taking a closer look at the enhancements for

If not already implemented, it might be worthwhile to discuss your
proposal with the author of inkscape-gears-dev (jnweiger).
