What is your Inkscape version and operating system?

in Inkscape Preferences > Interface you can find "Maximum documents in Open Recent" and set how many docs you want to appear in that list. So you can make sure it's not set to zero. Next to is it a "Clear List" button.

I don't know what causes it, but once in a while my Open Recent list gets cleared out too. Then I just use either Open, or my file manager, to open files, and pretty soon, Open Recent is filled up again.

I have windows 7 and inkscape 48.1 and 48.4. I tried both and the problem remains.

Hhmmm..... Well this is the first time I've heard this problem. I searched through bug reports to try and learn something about this. I found 3 reports that that seem to possibly explain it.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/649940 (Recent file list only contains files opened manually)

When you finish working on the file, do you click File menu > Save, or File menu > Save As, or click the Save button on the command bar? Or do you close the file, producing the dialog which asks you whether you want to save, and then you click Save there?

And I also found this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/629608 (Recent files menu does not list files with non-Latin filenames (Windows))

And this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/780508 ("open recent" does not remember files open via operating system)

Do any of those issues seem to fit, for you?

the first one worked... strangely. When I try the list of open recent, the new file appears with the internet explorer symbol! terrifying.. but only this way... closing directly and answering to the question do you wanto to save, doesn´t send it to the list..

another unsolved mystery is inkview... it seems not to be installed...

Yeah, I have a tiny, pale symbol that looks like the IE icon, next to SVG files in the Open Recent list too. (I'm also on Win7.) Actually I had never even noticed is until now! But it does seem odd though.....now that I see it. PNGs and GIFs have different icons (not sure what they represent).

Inkview should be installed, but it's hard to access directly, separately from the Inkscape window. I'm not sure exactly how to do it, besides right-click > Open With. I don't think you can open it without a file to display in it. But I could be wrong about that.

Sorry, I wish I could give you more info. But at least you're finally starting to build your Open Recent menu/list :-)

Well, I see it will work when I begin to create new files... and not working with the old ones...

but finally the list exists...

Thanks for the help... muito obrigado...
