opening .ai files from adobe illustrator 8.0 files

I am receiving errors in Inkscape when I try to open old .ai files created by Adobe Illustrator 8.0.
Am running Window 7 (newly installed).
I chose the file type: Illustrator 8.0 or lower
Received the following error messages:
python.exe has stopped working
Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed. The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the results will not be as expected.
Uniconverter failed
Is there a solution?
