I have made an arrow, but when I try to copy and past it onto a picture (over the top of the picture) the object pastes with a white fill underneath.

Asked by Katherine Moon

I have made an arrow with a line and a triangle that I drew. I then grouped the two objects to make the one arrow. Then, when I try to copy the arrow and paste it into a picture, I get a white outlined filled around the object, as if I have print-screened the arrow and cropped it and pasted it.

I will just use the Ctrl + D command to duplicate the arrow

FYI, that's a bug in Inkscape when used on a Mac. And Duplicate is indeed the correct solution :-D

The better [*] solution is to change the preferences for the pasteboard in X11/XQuartz, as described in the FAQ:
<http://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#Copying_and_pasting_in_Inkscape_creates_pixellated_images_instead_of_copying_the_vector_objects>
and shown in this screenshot:

[*] better because this known conflict between X11/XQuartz (with default settings) and vector applications like Inkscape and Fontforge running under X11/XQuartz affects other uses of the clipboard in Inkscape too, where 'Ctrl+D' is not an alternative.
