rectangle box will not fill with colour

Asked by Judith Woodworth

I click on rectangle tool and draw out box but there is no fill.. I have selected "black" fill and "black" stroke but still the box remains empty.. I want to create a long black rectangle but it just doesn't want to co-operate.

Probably the last time you drew a rectangle, you made it transparent. So the next time you use that tool (now) it's once again drawing a transparent rectangle. (One of the most absurd default behaviors around, imo!)

Anyway, look in Fill and Stroke dialog, the A (alpha) bar. It needs to be all the way to the right with value of 255. Also check the Opacity slider at the bottom of F/S dialog. It needs to be all the way to the right, with value of 100.

If that doesn't help, try some other steps described here: http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?action=articles;sa=view;article=18.

Can you help with this problem?
