You could do that with Pattern Along path. Do you need instructions?

[quote]Yes please I am new to Inkscape and vector drawing.
I am trying to make small road maps from my area by copying over a
larger area of maps.

If you are a complete novice with Inkscape and vector graphics, I suggest you plan on taking some time to learn the basics, before you try this. I would not recommend using Pattern Along Path until you have a little more experience. I would call it at least an intermediate skill.

For example, I wonder if simply drawing a path for the road, and set the width to 5 mm, would be sufficient for your project? It's not a technically correct way to draw roads/maps. But you can't expect to be able to make technical drawings with no previous experience.

Here's the manual info on PAP: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-LivePathEffects-PatternAlongPath.html

But I would suggest, at the very least, working through this tutorial, before trying. It's designed to introduce new users to paths and path editing: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/AShortExampleLogo.html.

This Launchpad Answers forum doesn't seem to be set up for extended support on a single issue. (For example, I don't see how images or illustrations can be included, or files uploaded.) You may find you can get more personal attention message board style forums - especially as a beginner. There's a list of all the ones I know about, here: http://inkscape.org/en/learn/.

Good luck!
