installed ghostscript, added path, still fail to import .eps

Asked by donnyKerabatsos

I carried out the official instructions for enabling import of eps files into Inkscape
http://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#Opening an EPS file on Windows

Specifically, I installed Ghostscript 9.14 in the folder "C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.14"
and added the appropriate folders to the system path. Here's the tail end of my Path variable:
...\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.14\lib;C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.14\bin

I restarted my computer several times and still when I try to import any eps file I get "Failed to load the requested file..."

This is happening on Windows 7, 64 bit. Inkscape version 0.48.4 r

Can this version of Inkscape import .eps files? If so, how?

Thanks!
Genya

You need the 32bit version of Ghostscript to work with Inkscape, not the 64bit one.

Thanks rickmaster! But still having the same issue. I did the following:

1) uninstalled 64 bit Ghostscript
2) installed 32 bit Ghostscript (gs914w32.exe) into the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\gs\gs9.14"
3) modified the system path, so that its tail end reads "...;C:\Program Files (x86)\gs\gs9.14\lib\;C:\Program Files (x86)\gs\gs9.14\bin\"
4) re-started the computer.
5) opened Inkscape and tried to import and to open an .eps file. Both attempts produced the same "Failed to load requested file..." errors.

What to do now?

Try taking out the last '\' in the location strings to look like this:

"...;C:\Program Files (x86)\gs\gs9.14\lib;C:\Program Files (x86)\gs\gs9.14\bin"

That's how I have it on my system, and I'm personally running GS 9.10 here.
