moving arrow adjust mm

Asked by elementchaosu

hello,
is there any possibility to add a dialog to inkscape, where i could modify the size and units (mm/cm/inch) of object shift, when moving it by arrows. (ideally placed at toll controls bar of 'select and transform objects)
This could be very usefull and save a plenty of time eg. when duplicating objects. Moving it by px is impractical in much cases for me, because the shift is too small and static. I´ve asked elsewhere, but it seems there isnt this function on lunux inkscape and i'm very lacking it. Thank you... and thank you for doing all this inkscape work ( :

The size (in px) for the move steps can be changed in the preferences (File > Inkscape preferences > Steps: Arrow keys move by [__] px). Unfortunately, the units for the 'Steps' options cannot be changed in current stable Inkscape 0.48 (they are limited to 'px'). The feature request to support additional units is well known though and tracked in
- Bug #170293 (sf976167) “Selectable units for steps”
  <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/170293>
By now, a solution has been implemented which will be available in the next major version (0.91): a units selector added to the options in the 'Steps' preferences pane.
