Help with crashing please...

Asked by david kearley

I'm desperately trying to get Inkscape running, I have tried it on two XP machines but it will not run for more than about five minutes before I get the message "Inkscape has encountered an error and needs to close"

I then tried installing on my mac mavericks machine, did the xquartz install first, downloaded the Inkscape package but upon trying to open it, I get a message saying it can't be opened.

Is there a way I can get the osx version running or even the XP as I desperately need a vector application with an image trace function.

Thanks

On Mavericks:
1) download and install XQuartz
2) reboot (or log out and back in) - NOTE: this is a required step to correctly finish the installation of XQuartz.
3) now launch Inkscape [1], and when it prompts for X11 ('Where is X11?'), click on 'Browse…' and select the just installed XQuartz application in 'Applications > Utilities'.

Note that the first time Inkscape is launched, it might take a while until the font cache is built.

Ok, that managed to get Inkscape running, not as friendly as native apps but usable.

However, the first time I tried saving a DXF file it gave a message about downloading something like Lxml ??

I tried that but it just gave me a compressed folder, the install instructions made no sense at all so I am still stuck.
