How to change size limit for "too large for preview"

Asked by Rotating Eggplants

Some (but not all) of my svgs show up as "too large for preview". Is is possible to change the threshold for deciding a file is "too large"? I looked through the inkscape preferences (and googled) but didn't find anything relevant.

The size limit for the preview is hard-coded - it cannot be changed via preferences (at runtime).

Technical detail wrt current state - last time this limit was increased (this change is included in current stable Inkscape 0.48):

That change to increase the file size limit was done based on a feature request which did not ask to make this a user-configurable option (personally I'm also not really convinced this should be configurable at runtime via preferences setting).

Can you help with this problem?
