Copy / paste between drawings loses format

Asked by Mark Dunham

When copying elements from one drawing to another (e.g. a triangle) the pasted copy seems to lose format and becomes a low res bit map. Am I doing something wrong?

Are you using Inkscape on a Mac?

In case you use Inkscape on a Mac:

This is a known conflict with the system clipboard on OS X, between X11/XQuartz and X11-based vector drawing applications like Inkscape and Fontforge.

To work around the known issue, please adjust the X11/XQuartz preferences as shown on this screenshot:
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/307005/+attachment/1760181/+files/X11-pasteboard-preferences.png>
and as described in the FAQ:
<http://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#Copying_and_pasting_in_Inkscape_creates_pixellated_images_instead_of_copying_the_vector_objects>

The changes will take effect immediately (no need to restart X11/XQuartz or Inkscape), but you'll have to re-copy&paste earlier pasted objects (those can't magically be reverted back to vector objects).
