Problems with selecting objects in MacOSX (10.8.5)

Asked by jeltsch

On MacOSX (10.8.5, XQuartz 2.7.5), Inkscape 0.48.2 has occasionally problems with selecting objects. Not the object under the cursor is selected, but another object. Is this problem known?

Another problem is that upon copying/pasting an object it is sometimes converted into a bitmap. Anybody seen that before?

My work group wants to switch to MacOSX, but we have many assets in inkscape and would be willing to put a bounty out to get the problems fixed.

Thanks, Michael.

Known conflict with XQuartz and vector drawing applications like Inkscape and XQuartz. The workaround is described in the FAQ:
<http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#Copying_and_pasting_in_Inkscape_creates_pixellated_images_instead_of_copying_the_vector_objects>

Wrt to the selection issue: difficult to tell what might be the reason based on the description alone (without access to a sample SVG file which exposes the issue) - possibly a known problem with clipped objects higher in stack order than the targeted object, as tracked in bug #365458 (fixed in Inkscape >= 0.48.3.1 which unfortunately is not yet available as precompiled package for OS X)

Workaround: make sure to enable the 'Alt' modifier key as described in the FAQ and on Richard Hult's inkscpae-tips page, and use 'Alt+click' to 'select under'.
