Hi,

You're dealing with a raster image obviously (or else, you only have to degroup and delete the background elements). Inkscape is not a raster editor, so you can do something approaching but won't have the ease of a raster editor.

My suggestion : extract your section with a raster editor (eg Gimp), export a transparent PNG and import it back to Inkscape
Or if you want to do it with Inkscape : use the bezier tool and a lot of zooming and panning to draw a shape around your section, one point after another, then apply it to your picture as a mask to extract only that part. You can also try to vectorize your image if it's made of simple shapes, and then delete the background elements.

Regards
