round shapes won't fill to show over fill of larger shape

I am trying to draw a simple face with round-ish shapes for eyes. They are irregular, not drawn with circle. I can fill the face, but the eyes disappear. I tried filling with white, and tried clicking the box w/ red x for no fill.

How is this done?

Most likely your eyes are "behind" your face in z-order. If they are on the same layer you can put eyes in front with the "home" key while selectiong them, then your filling of face should be behind the eyes.
