What is a wedge?

Im trying to make a shattered text and it says that I need to insert a wedge using the path tool. I have to idea what to do.

Where are you reading that instruction from? Is it a tutorial?

I think I found the source here :

So the answer to "what is a wedge ?" is :

any (closed) path.

So, take the bezier tool and click the 3 points of your triangle as in the tutorial (then click on the first point to close the path) and you should have your "wedge".
