how do i desegregate items within a phoot

i have a photo that has several piecces of things that combined to make one thing but i need to pull those things off each individual

Hi,

For uncombining path elements, try Path -> Break apart (ctrl+shift+K)

( If you meant "how to ungroup a group of objects to deal with them individually?" and you can either work inside the group with dblclick or ungroup it (ctrl+shift+g) )

(If you *really* meant a "photo", opening a bitmap with inkscape and trying to separate elements like this, it's not possible, you have to vectorize it first)
