Crop an image with an oval outline and then have the resulting edge fade into the background

Asked by Robert Duncan

I have not tried this yet but what I want to accomplish is an oval filled with an image and then have this oval image fade away into the background of a web page. Thanks,R.Duncan.

Hi,
How I would do it would be to create your image, create a *white* oval with radial gradient (one intermediate stop : where you want your real oval to stop. center and intermediate stops are white with opacity 100%, exterior stop completely transparent). Then use that oval as a mask for your image (select boath, and object-> mask -> set) .

You're done!
