darken existing line color

I have done a few scans of black and white images, and now the black lines are blending into the unwanted grey background. I would like to eliminate the grey background and darken the black lines.

Hi,

Even though Inkscape has some tools to work with bitmap images (like your scanned image), it's not meant for that, and you'd have greater success with e.g. Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/). Or you could use the Path > vectorize tool to convert your bitmap to a vector image that Inkscape can deal with.
