Mountain Lion Problem with InkScape 0.48.2

When launching InkScape in MountainLion 8.4, it reports that it cannot find X11 and opens a file dialog to locate X11.

XQuartz is installed in /opt/X11; however when I navigate to /opt/X11/bin, all files are greyed out so it will not let me select XQuartz or X.

XQuartz has been previously launched and works, so the Finder knows where to locate it.

What am I missing in the installation/configuration on InkScape?

Browse to 'Applications > Utilities' and select XQuartz (i.e. the application itself)
