Hi,

I cannot reproduce your error, if I select the miter join in the fill & stroke dialog, it makes it as square as can be ;). Maybe you are using a rounded rectangle and not a rectangle ? Having your rectangle selected, choose the rectangle tool. In the toolbar, you should now see Rx and Ry values that indicate the Radius of the rounds along both axis. Put them both to zero (or click the "square angles" button on the right of this two fields) and you should be OK.
