Shapes don't show up, won't accept color assignment

When I use the tools for circles and squares, the box shows up, but the shape doesn't. When I assign a color to the fill or the border, it remains blank, even though the iInkscape recognizes colors have been assigned.

This is a new problem I have been experiencing for several months. In the past, I could use these tools without any difficulty.

Hi,

Sounds strange... Maybe you should check the Opacity setting, in the bottom left part of Inkscape's window. (the selector named "O", right from FIll and Stroke). It should be 100 (it's in %). Check too the eye just netx to this selector (layer visibility) : the eye should be opened, if not, click on it.
