Copy-Paste Inskape objects to MS Word

Asked by Michael Topik

Can someone point me to instructions for copying and pasting images I draw in Inkscape into MS Word on Mac OS X10.6.8? The usual copy-paste trick doesn't work. I am running Microsoft Word for Mac 2004, v. 11.5.6. Inkscape seems to be running on something called X11, which seems to be a virtual Windows partition. I don't know anything about X11, but can reconstruct how I got here. Is there, perhaps a native Mac version of Inkscape that I am unaware of? Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I'm not familiar with MsWord or Mac but here's how I do it in Linux/LibreOffice :
1) does MSWord import SVG ? If so, just save your work in inkscape (maybe using "simple SVG" instead of "inkscape SVG", for compatibility, and import this file in MsWord
2) if not, chosse a format that Inkscape can export to and MsWord can import. Try the vector formats first (EPS, WMF, ...) as they scale better if you change their size in your MsWord document
3) if all else fails, export your image to a PNG (File > Export to bitmap in Inkscape) and then open this PNG file in MsWord. As this format is not vector but bitmap, you should choose a high resolution like 300 dpi if you intend to print it.

Regards
