Hi,

A scanner creates bitmap images (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raster_graphics), and inkscape is a vector image editor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_graphics). Inkscape can import bitmap images but has limited functionnality with those. You should scan with another program.
