Inkscape version 0.48.4 not showing Height/Width pixels

Asked by Ari N

Inkscape version 0.48.4
Windows: Vista Home Premium

Additional: Windows Japanese version
Inkscape's language: English

Recently I have noticed Inkscape is not showing "X Y Width Height Pixel".
To resolve problem once I reinstalled the Inkscape but faced the same problem. Then I clean uninstalled and reinstalled once again. When I open a document only once I can see width, height etc. then it is gone. Or if I draw something I can see width height pixel but only once then I can not see those details which is very frustrating.

I wonder what could be the cause?

Any help will be appreciated.

P.S. I have updated Windows, drivers, Adobe flash and Java.

Thank you.

Do you happen to your OS configured with Japanese locale (language) settings?

Likely this is due to a known problem with Japanese locale settings on Windows, tracked in
- Bug #1020518 “can't input x,y,width and height values in Windows”

Since long I have been using Inkscape on Windows Vista Home Premium (Japanese) and did not face any problem and now all of sudden this kind of problem is strange.

Thank you.

Please let me rephrase the question (I sent the reply to quickly without rereading the full sentence after deleting parts of the original version):

Do you happen to have your OS configured with Japanese locale (language) settings?

AFAIU the problem started after updating the Windows version of the GTK+ toolkit Inkscape uses for the GUI - possibly this is an upstream bug in the toolkit, not directly caused by changes in Inkscape's code itself.

Yes my Windows is in Japanese and use Inkscape in English.

"AFAIU the problem started after updating the Windows version of the GTK+ toolkit Inkscape uses for the GUI - possibly this is an upstream bug in the toolkit"

AFAIU, GTK+toolkit could not understand these words sorry.

Thank you.

AFAIU: an acronym, which stands for "As Far As I Understand"

toolkit: set of basic components for developing software

GTK+: a specific toolkit or software component used in Inkscape (to create the windows, dialogs, buttons, etc. of the application)

Thank you for clarification suv-lp

As all kind of attempts failed I did one thing and solved the problem. My Inkscape version was 0.48.4, I installed the older version 0.48.2 and opened older document, created new document, drawn various shapes and everything is working fine. Now I can see "X Y Width Height Pixel".

I thought I should share my findings.

Thank you to those who guided me.
