Joining paths into one group

I scanned in a line drawing, and am trying to color it. I created several paths and don't know how to join them into a group so that I can then move the image into or out of backgrounds.

Select all paths you want to group, and apply menu 'Object > Group' (or the keyboard shortcut 'Ctrl+G').
