How do I forming a text string into an arc or more?

Hi,

I'm fascinated with the potential of Inkscape, and thank you.
I'd like to use it to design labels for my beer and wine.

My first question is it possible and how would I bend a string of text into arc or around other objects?

Thanks again for creating and enhancing tool for the common laymen.
