Asked by francois tarlier

would Inkscape support the hardware acceleration soon or even a day ?
I'm trying to use as much as I can freeware software, but the way that is getting slow due to that, makes it complecated to use in a professionnel way !
Too bad, cuz inkscape does everything I want (except that)

Hi Francois,

Inkscape currently does not support hardware acceleration, however we do have planned to switch our renderer to Cairo at some point, possibly by 0.47. Cairo's design includes provisions for hardware acceleration through the X Render Extension, and various backends. You can learn more about Cairo at http://cairographics.org/. XRender has a Wikipedia page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XRender with additional links for more info.

Btw, there are also some techniques Inkscape users use to get around performance issues, such as turning off layers, switching to outline mode, simplifying paths, using clones instead of copies, and so on.
