how to chamfer an edge?

Asked by Soo C M

Is there an equivalent feature in Inkscape that will give the chamfer effect as in shaving off one corner edge of a rectangular block revealing a flat angular corner for that edge?

Inkscape current offers no built-in tool (or effect) to auto-generate
chamfered or filleted corners for paths and shapes. You have to manually
edit the nodes of a path, or - for closed paths or shapes - cut off part
of the corner using path operations like 'Path > Difference' with an
auxiliary object drawn on top of the path/shape.

It is a known feature request, tracked in
- Bug #170149 “Node fillet / chamfer tools”
