"Lost" Fonts after Microsoft update.

Asked by Jaye Cottrill

Microsoft recently pushed through an update for my computer (Windows 7, 64 Bit, 8 GB RAM). I've been working on a logo with a client, and have been using ChopinScript in this logo for over 6 months in Inkscape. Today, even though ChopinScript is still listed in the font list, and functional in the MS windows font folder, my file is blank wherever I've used this font as a text item. How can I refresh the fonts w/in Inkscape so I can continue my work?

I have tried re-installing the font with no effect.

I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way but I am having the same issue and wanted to post my system specs and supporting information in addition to Jaye Cottrill's. Yesterday after working on my image I installed the Windows update before shutting down, and then this morning when I opened the image to continue work the font no longer appeared. The font is one I installed and the name appears in the in-program font list but text does not show up. Existing text is gone, typing new text results in blanks, and changing a working font text to this font makes the text disappear. I tested the font in MS Word and it works.

Things I tried:
I uninstalled Inkscape including the personal settings, restarted Windows, and downloaded and reinstalled Inkscape 0.48.2 r9819; but this did not solve the problem. I also uninstalled the font, restarted Windows, and reinstalled the font; but this did not solve the problem either. I noticed that this font is a .otf file but it is the only .otf file font I have installed so I don't know if that has anything to do with the issue. I also noticed the font name had a dash in it unlike every other installed font so I uninstalled the font, changed the font name, and reinstalled it; but this did not solve the problem.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3

To resolve the issue for now, I restored my system to a point before the update. I now have access to my fontwork again.

I was considering uninstalling the update but am concerned since it's a critical security threat that can allow full control of the computer to the attacker (according to the links suv posted). I don't know enough about it, whether all otf. files are vulnerable or only ones specifically made to be a threat.
