Asked by Julie Keller

I need to convert a .dng file to an .ai~ or just .jpeg if that's easier. I found out how to do it with inkscape I thought.. but it's not working. When I try to open the file in inkscape it says I need unicoder software so I downloaded that, but Inkscape says I still need it.. I don't understand..help anyone..

Inkscape is not a raster image editor - to convert between two raster image formats, use a better suited tool: image viewers which support the DNG file format will usually support this, or digital photo management applications that support raw processing, or a full-fledged raster image editor like GIMP (with the Ufraw plugin installed)).

If you actually want to vectorize the digital photograph with Inkscape, I'd recommend to pre-process it in a raster image editor (some cleaning, maybe increase contrast, etc), save it as JPG or PNG; then import the edited image into a new Inkscape document and use 'Path > Trace Bitmap…'.

For more information about tracing bitmaps (aka vectorizing), please consider reading the tutorial shipping with Inkscape:
- Inkscape menu 'Help > Tutorials > Inkscape: Tracing'
and the related section of the manual:

Can you help with this problem?
