The fill bounded areas tool creates objects with random topology

Asked by Andrei Nacu

I don't understand why the nodes of an object created with the "fill bounded areas" tool never match the nodes of the bounding paths, regardless of the grow/shrink factor.

I would like this tool to have an option to snap the nodes of the generated area to those of the bounding objects.

Because the Paint Bucket tool does not work in a "geometric" mode (nor
was it developed with this intention).

Please read the details about the current tool and its usage in the manual:

This is a known feature request, tracked in

Bug #170588 “Paint Bucket: geometric, not perceptual mode”?

Thanks. I've already read the manual part about this tool.

As I am using Inkscape to draw maps I would really need a geometric "fill bounded area" tool, or at least an option to snap to every node of a target path section (see my no. 212560 question).

Where should I submit my feature request(s)?

Note that you can use alternative methods (e.g. a combination of path operations like 'Path > Division') to create filled regions based on existing paths (e.g. regional borders).

Well, I submitted a message to the page of Bug #170588. Anyway, I think this request should have a higher priority.

I know I can use the path-division scheme to crop polygon features, but I would save a lot of time with a geometric fill area tool.

Just one more question, what should I do with my other feature request, the "snap to all nodes of a path section" option?

Thanks ~suv, that solved my question.
