how do you create custom colors

How do you create custom colors for letters or lines? I'm trying to use colors we already have painted on our store walls when making a logo and need to pic precise colors.

I've done it in a very stupid-straightforward way. Took a picture of the wall (with adequate light setting) and then used any of available color-picker programs. Or embed a picture into inkscape drawing and then use inkscape color picker.
