Inkscape

If copy and paste is done several times the drawing seems to become heavy to move.

I am using Inkscape on a Debian Linux system. When I am doing complex drawings with a lot of copy and paste operations , the drawing becomes slow and difficult to manipulate. Is there anyway I can improve this problem.

See View → Display mode to use drawing modes easier for computer. You could also split your drawing into groups and hide temporarily these which you don't use.
