recognize and edit text from imported bit map

Asked by Eric Christian

I saved a histogram graph created with 'R' as a bit map, I've imported it into Inkscape and now I want Inkscape to recognize characters, like the title and axis labels as text, so that I can edit the text. I'd be happy to drag my mouse across what I recognize as the x-axis labels of the imported image and then be able to change font, size, color, etc. Is something like this possible?

What you want is OCR (optical character recognition). Inkscape does not do that and I am pretty sure it never will. Google for a suitable program yourself.

You can try this free online ocr http://www.online-code.net/ocr.html to extract text from bitmap image.

Can you help with this problem?
