can you unbound an object

Want to fill parts of a logo, outline made from original jpg logo. If I try to fill, msg says "object is bounded". Can you "unbound" or fill individual "parts". New to Inkscape, just learning.

You probably just need to learn about path operations. Union your outline, then break the object apart and you should have it (if the outline was continious).
