When I copy a line to paste it, it pastes the shape, but not the stroke paint or stroke style settings.

Asked by Reece Ritter

I can draw lines and set the stroke paint and stroke style settings after each one. But if I copy and attempt to paste, it pastes a gray box of the right size, but no stroke paint and stroke style settings. Sometimes I am unable to set the stroke style even manually after pasting.

Which OS/platform are you using?
Is the pasted object still a path/line or a bitmap image (selected pasted copy and read the message in the status line)?

I am on a Mac, using OS X 10.7.4.

When I copy the line, it remains a Path with 2 Nodes. When I paste it, it becomes an "Image," embedded in the Layer.

You hit a known conflict between X11/XQuartz and applications like Inkscape and FontForge when trying to copy&paste vector data.

Please change the preferences of X11 as seen in this screenshot:
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/307005/+attachment/1760181/+files/X11-pasteboard-preferences.png>
and described in the FAQ:
<http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#Copying_and_pasting_in_Inkscape_creates_pixellated_images_instead_of_copying_the_vector_objects>

The change in the X11 settings will take effect immediately - no need to restart X11 or Inkscape. You will need to redo any copy&pastes you did earlier in Inkscape though, because all pasted vector objects will still be bitmap images.

Can you help with this problem?
