Cannot make changes after saving

I saved my drawing for step 1 of my project. i would like to continue with the same drawing for step 2 without having to re-draw the whole thing. However, I cannot click on anything and have it work. When I select and click on one of the ellipses, nothing happens. Very frustrating!!!!

Are you sure you are using selector tool (F1)? Are you sure you didn't lock the object or layer?

Can you help with this problem?
