Saving Multiple Views: document that clips, resizes, etc. another document?

Asked by Mike Sample

I have drawn a large map with levels of detail in certain areas that are only visible if zoomed in. I can print these zoomed 'inset' areas by copying the original document, clipping to the desired region, resizing, etc. and then printing. Is there way to do this without copying the original document? ie have the master document that other documents reference, clip, resize etc. OR saving these views within the master doc itself?

Perhaps there a better way to record 'zoomed' regions of a larger document?

Thanks in advance. I'm impressed with Inkscape after using it for a few days.

It's maybe possible to do what you require by using the "Batch export all selected objects" functionality in the "Export Bitmap" dialog, as hinted in this old post:
http://inkscape-forum.andreas-s.net/topic/113025

Also see this guide for the function (more complete)

I expect that the hidden rectangles you'll have to create for exporting the small areas will have to be exported with an higher DPI: you should be able to set such value by first exporting each rectangle alone, and setting an appropriate DPI value.

Can you help with this problem?
