two behaviours of shift G

Asked by patrick palmer

Under the object menu, when I use shift G to give me the guide lines round an object, sometimes, the object disappears, leaving the guidelines behind, and sometimes it doesn't disappear, and I still get the guidelines. I can't understand the circumstances in which the different outcomes result from the same action.

Could you please file a bug about it? https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape

It would help much, if you could find what causes the difference in the behaviour. When I tried the object always disappeared, which should be right according to the menu item name "Object to guidelines"

Before filing a bug, please check the associated preferences setting for converting guides: Did the different behavior really happen on the same system, with the same set of of preferences?

The preference setting which determines whether the objects are kept or not after converting them to guides can be found here :
Menu 'File > Inkscape Preferences > Tools > Conversion to Guides:'
[ ] Keep objects after conversion to guides
