How do I create multiple copies of a single object in Inkscape with one command?

I would like to create multiple copies of an object in Inkscape where I specify the number of copies n, without having to click "Duplicate" n times. How do I do this?

Create tiled clones (Edit → Clones) and later unlink clones?
