Change default Zoom to whole page size?

Asked by Lucy Gregg

Is there a way to change the default zoom level so it always opens a document showing the whole page or whole drawing?

At the moment it seems to open zoomed in on a section of the design so I always have to zoom out again before I can start work.

I usually use an A3 landscape or A4 landscape page which I have created as my own defaults.

Thanks for your help.

a) Opening saved 'Inkscape SVG' files
The initial zoom level of 'Inkscape SVG' files is stored within each file, and reused the next time you open it in a new document window.

Note: this is only possible for files saved with the default 'Inkscape SVG' file format. Other vector-based formats (e.g. 'Plain SVG', or PDF) cannot store such Inkscape-specific settings per file.

b) New files:
For new documents, the initial zoom level is picked up from the default template (or whatever template from 'File > New…' was used). You can create custom templates with your preferred settings (including the initial zoom level when opening the file).
