how to bring an object forward or on top of another object?

Is there a way to bring an object "on top" or " in front" of another object?

Yes.

1. click the object once using the Select tool.
2. In the Tool Controls bar you'll see a set of icons that talk about raising or lowering the selection. This text appears when you move the mouse over the icons. The icons have some short grey horizontal lines in them and one longer line with an arrow pointing upward. Ciick either the far right one of the set of four. That one brings any object immediately to the top.

Note:

This can be done from the menu bar or from the keyboard.

From the menu bar:

1. select the object to raise.
2. Object > Raise

Done.

From the keyboard:

1. select the object to raise.
2. hit the PgUp key on the keyboard.
