How do I save oval shape with text inside ?

I am creating logo, a black oval shape with text inside. How do I save it all in one piece? I am used to Illustrator where you circle design with mouse and save the whole thing. But in this case, it only saves all the text together, but does not save the oval the text is in. How do I save the whole piece?

To what format are you saving? I don't think saving to SVG would end up so. If it does, the program you use to open it, is broken.

Can you help with this problem?
