How to install a patch on ver. .48 WindowXP OS?

Asked by paul on 2012-03-27

There's a bug which prevents me from being able to use Inkscape as desired.

The issue has a patch which is supposed to be included in ver .49

However, I really need this fix NOW and would like to compile my own Windows .exe with the patch. No problem replacing the .cpp file, but I've tried several times to follow the compiling instructions and failed.

Can someone please write . . . "How to compile Inkscape to .exe for Windows for dummies?" :) Thank you.

After applying a patch you need to set up development environment and compile Inkscape. All the relevant information is available on Inkscape's wiki, but this is no easy task. I suggest you just wait until the patch is accepted and use the daily/nightly build.

Thank you. I doubt I have the skills to do such a thing.

Anyone competent AND interested in doing this into a Windows .exe file let
me know and give me a bid.

I need the tool.

Just try the nightly, maybe the fix has already landed there.

Thanks, just tried 48.3.1. Y axis still inverted.

I put the patch in the file, renamed it per instructions, then completely removed the original .cpp file, but cant seem to get the compiler to work.

I'll try again when time permits and report results.

In the meanwhile, if anyone really knows how to add this patch, compile to windows .exe, please post your bid and we can go from there.

Think the compiling environment is just beyond my understanding and skills. Tried several times and really don't understand what I am doing.

Anyone willing to compile the applicable patch, then compile this for me for food, fun or US $ . . . let me know.

The old, initial version of a patch attached in bug #170049 won't work to correctly implement the requested feature. As was discussed in the comments there and on the developers' mailing list, an improved version of it had been tested in the development branch and later needed to be reverted because several things didn't work correctly, and it broke working with old (existing) documents.

The requested feature is well known (on Inkscape's roadmap), and will be available in a future version of Inkscape once it has been properly addressed and implemented (covering all aspects and avoiding side-effects of changing the GUI coordinate system to match the SVG coordinate system).

Thanks . . . the patch problems did not seem as a significant impediment
for our use . . . but then waiting is not one of my personal strengths . .
. at my age, I don't even buy green bananas anymore. :)

Our No Other Option Solution: Use other editing tool until roadmap is achieved.

Thank you all for explanation and amazing work, otherwise.
