Hello,

The bitmap crop feature will be available in 0.49 (no release date yet).

With 0.48, you can use the following workaround:
1. Draw a shape on your bitmap, masking the part you want to keep.
2. Select the shape and the bitmap and use Object>Clip>Set.

More details on clipping in the Inkscape manual (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Clip.html).

But if you already know the size you need for your bitmap, you can also cut it with Gimp and then import it in Inkscape.

Regards.
