Can I crop part of imported bitmap?

Asked by Carsten Heitmann

Hello!
Imported bitmap with patterns of which I want one to crop ( cut out) for tracing.
have not been able to find a way. Traced the whole bitmap and then tried to cut
one pattern, but could even then not find a way to mark this one pattern for cutting...
Is there a work-around or must I crop before ( outside Inkscape) importing ?

With many thanks in advance
Carsten

Hello,

The bitmap crop feature will be available in 0.49 (no release date yet).
With 0.48, you can use the following workaround:
1. Draw a shape on your bitmap, masking the part you want to keep.
2. Select the shape and the bitmap and use Object>Clip>Set.
3. Select the resulting object and make a bitmap copy (Alt+B).
4. Select the bitmap copy and trace.

But I'm not sure it's faster than using an external tool...

Regards.

Hello jazzynico!
Thank you very much for your advice.
Think I'll use the screen-clip-tool before import into Inkscape until I master the above route. :-)
Thanks again
with best regards
