Inkscape fails to start

Running Windows 7 64-bit Home Pro. Installed Inkscape 0.48.2-1 from SourceForge without incident. When I clicked on the start icon, I got a window with the following notice:

inkscape.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005) Click OK to close the application.

Tried uninstall and reinstall several times with the same result. Is there a fix for this problem?
