objects counter?

Asked by Rik

Would it be possible to count how many identical objects of a predefined type, colour or name are in my drawing?
Say, I'm designing a floor plan with seats and tables. I'd use identical objects (clones) for both. Will Inkscape count how many seats and tables I need to order?
Will the count be automagically updated after I alter my design?

Cheers,
Rik

Hello,

You can use the Find dialog (Ctrl+F) to choose the kind of object you want to count, and get the count of the selected objects in the status bar.
If you want to count the gray rectangles in your drawing, select Rectangles in the Type value (uncheck All types and All shapes first), add "fill:#999999" in Style and hit Find. In the status bar, you'll see "n objects of type Rectangle in layer ...".

More details on the Find dialog in the Inkscape manual (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Select.html#Select-Find).

Regards.
